Waterside Movie Nights, starting next Monday, with Spider-Man

We go out to at least two or three movies a week, both big Hollywood productions as well as the many small, foreign and/or documentary films that only get released here in New York City... ok, and a few other places, too, but there's nowhere else in the country, or on the planet, that you have so many indie and big-budget options, on so many screens, in so many theaters, all within walking distance of each other.

That said, even with all the intriguing new movies coming out each Friday, we're still psyched for Waterside Movie Nights, and the terrific slate of modern-classic, family-friendly, truly great films being shown on the Plaza on four Monday nights in August.

The series kicks off Next Monday, August 2, when it gets dark, around 8:30, with Spider-Man, the first (and best? second best?) of the Sam Raimi-directed, Tobey McGuirre- and Kirsten Dunst-starring superhero trilogy. We just recently saw this (for the fourth time), and were reminded why it launched a mega-smash franchise: it's got humor, romance (that kiss!), genuine suspense and one of recent cinema's great moments of pure exhilaration and freedom, when teenage Peter Parker/Spidey first figures out how to shoot his web, and goes soaring through the canyons of Manhattan, yelling wooooooo-hoooooooo!

Anyway, here's the full RCN-sponsored slate. Remember: seating is limited, but feel free to bring your lawn chairs or blankets.
