The Incredibles, next Monday, outside, for free

If, as is frequently claimed, Pixar is the world's best entertainer these days... and if, as is even more frequently claimed, The Incredibles is Pixar's best film (or, certainly, in the Top 3)... then does that mean we'll be watching the greatest movie of all time next Monday, in the Plaza, for FREE?!?

Well, let's not get carried away. BUT we will say that, even after four previous viewings of Pixar's smart and speedy, sweet and touching, ever-inventive and extremely hilarious superhero adventure, this is the Waterside Monday Night at the Movies screening that we've been most excited about.

The story, as you probably know, is centered on the superhuman (formerly superHERO) Parr family, trying to lay low and live a normal life after being forced to give up costumed crime-fighting by a litigious citizenry and power-jealous politicians. There's Bob (incredible strength) and Helen (incredible elasticity), and their kids, Violet (incredible invisibility), Dash (incredible speed), and the infant Jack-Jack (incredible incredibleness). How the Parrs deal with a world turned fearful of (and, so, angry at) their specialness provides much of the pathos here. How the Incredibles deal with the evil supervillan Syndrome, bent not only on destroying them, but also ruling the planet, provides the most thrilling, most gloriously crazy and funny and fully alive action sequences ever put on the screen. If you've somehow never seen The Incredibles, it's a total must.

The Incredibles, the final screening in the RCN Movie Nights series, will be shown on Monday, August 23, outside on the Plaza, at around 8:30 p.m. Limited seating available; please feel free to bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, beverages, friends, and loved ones.
