As the withering heat has already alerted you: summer is officially here. And as all parents reading this know, summer means the kids are out of school, expecting to be entertained...and since there are only so many times you can take them to the pool, diversify their summer fun (and get them to stay still!) with outdoor films, usually aired in the evening when it's happily cooler! See Time Out New York Kids' guide to the open-air summer film guide to NYC for a full list of free viewings around the city, including RCN Monday Movie Nights at Waterside Plaza. As Time Out New York Kids warns you, not all films on the list are appropriate for children. We have highlighted the best family-friendly films here, including the beloved classic The Wizard of Oz, playing at HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival this Monday, July 2. Bryant Park lawn opens at 5PM and films begin after 8PM. Go early to snag a good patch of lawn!

Other summer highlights include Intrepid Summer Movie Series airing of The Muppets on Friday, July 27 and The Central Park Conservancy Film Festival's PeeWee's Big Adventure on Monday, August 22. RiverFlicks for Kids is an entirely kid-safe series as is Waterside Plaza' RCN Monday Movie Nights. Time Out New York Kids says of Waterside Plaza:

The renowned Manhattan apartment complex welcomes families to lay down a blanket, prop up a lawn chair and enjoy a bag of free popcorn at its August series of family-friendly flicks.
